In order to add fractions, we need to convert unlike fractions into like fractions.
We can use
Find the sum of 2/5 + 2/3.
To make them like fractions, we can use the butterfly method or the cross multiplication method.
Remember: Once we get like fractions, we only add numerators.
Find the sum of 2 + 2/3.
Remember: All whole numbers are fractions with a denominator 1.
For Example,
2=2/1
To add a mixed number and a fraction, we need to follow the steps below.
Step #1: Convert a mixed fraction into an improper fraction.
Step #2: Make them like fractions.
Step #3: Add them.
